When Boston stylist, Rebecca Alvarado, opened her email from Joico, she wasn’t expecting to read the following words…
Dear Rebecca,
We are pleased to inform you that you are the winner of the Joico #MeetYourMuse Sweepstakes with Vivienne Mackinder! The day of the event is Monday, 11/19/2018 in NYC. We will fly you and a friend to NYC for the in-person, hands-on class with Vivienne. Can you please confirm you and your friend are available to attend and travel during this period?”
Um…that would be a resounding YES, says our over-the-moon recipient of this unique career opportunity! Rebecca, an independent stylist who works out of Boston, MA, explains that she’s always had a passion for hair — even when she was growing up. “My mom was a stylist, and she truly inspired my vision of becoming the artist I am today.” A self-proclaimed generalist (“I don’t specialize in one particular area of hair”), Rebecca, nevertheless, believes her strength lies in the area of color; which is why she’s gained a reputation as a creative expert who sees hair as a true form of art. “I really love the connection I have with all my clients…how they feel once they leave. And to know that I’ve made a little different in their life is why I truly love what I do.”

The eblast caught her eye: “We’re teaming up with Nine Zero One Salon in launching the ultimate social media contest: the chance to win a FREE ticket to Destination Education (including round trip airfare to Palm Springs, and complimentary stay at Hotel Saguaro). And so with that, St. Louis hairstylist, Megan Coyne, posted a photo of her work that landed her the ultimate jackpot: a spot in this exclusive, three-day learning extravaganza, with hair stars from the 901 Academy and a roll-out of exciting classes, and color…LOTS of glorious LumiShine color. It’s the ultimate get for Megan, who first fell in love with hair by watching her stylist/Grandma at work in the salon; and eventually went to beauty school to follow the family “roots.” Today, this deeply passionate hair artist specializes in Balayage and Color Contouring, hoping to eventually become an educator and help others with the same passion for success.
