As an international haircare company, Joico prides itself on having talent across the globe. So we were thrilled to sit down with Bangkok pro, Tarakorn — known for stunningly vivid color creations and the comeback of the perm — and get all the juicy details on his work and his life.
Bragging rights: Graduated with an MBA and Masters degree in Chemical Engineering — the same as Steve Stefano (Founder of Joico). And I am the first Joico Advocate in Thailand.
On my nightstand: One glass of water. First fuel of the morning so I have a bright day!
Can’t live without: My personal favorite scissors. Cannot do my passion work without them.
What I’m eating when no one’s looking: A pound of cake. Need to eat it and hide it before others stop me!
If any designer (or store) could dress me: Alexander McQueen.
What’s on my feet: Christian Louboutins.
I’ll cry if I’m out of: Joico products.
My influencers: My Dad, my Mom, and Toni&Guy.
Guiltiest pleasure: Big dinners out with friends — even when I tell them I’m on a diet!
Trickiest hairdresser situation: When a mother brings a young daughter in for a haircut; and she wants her to have a short bob, while the daughter wants to keep her hair long. Inevitably, after I cut the bob, Mom is happy and the daughter is crying.
Why hair? For that moment of happiness, when you see someone with a big smile in your mirror after you’ve designed a new hairstyle for them.
What I’m best known for: Both hot and cold perms.
Problem solved: One day, a little kid came to my salon and asked me to do a Teletubbies style for him. It was really hard to break his heart, so I said, “You will look very smart with a Ken-doll style!
If not hair: I’d be a personal trainer in the fitness industry, since you can have a perfect body and work at the same time.
The hair I never want to see again: A mullet!
This hairstyle/color will never bore me: Perm techniques with color.
Best advice ever: If you’ve never put Joico in your salon, go for it now!
Moment I won’t forget: When I got off the Flying Dinosaur ride at Universal Studios, and said to myself, “I’m still alive!”
